Mark on face of 8th milestone from Chorley and 3d from Bolton ; 2.34 ft. above surface [1GL, Preston to Manchester, Mark No. 48]; CUT MARK: MS N SIDE CHORLEY NEW RD OPP LOWER HOUSE FM S FACE (ODN 132.4112m, AGL 0.5m). This benchmark was used during the First primary levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 434.7370 feet [132.5078 metres] above mean sea level (Liverpool datum). It was included on the Preston to Manchester levelling line. The surveyor's description was No. 48. Mark on face of 8th milestone from Chorley and 3d from Bolton; 2.34 ft. above surface (p431).
