This station is on what was known as the Hertford Loop from Stevenage to Wood Green. The main East Coast route is via Welwyn . The Hertford loop is used for diversions when engineering work takes place on the main line. There is a good suburban rail service to London Moorgate via Finsbury Park and a direct service to Stevenage northbound but not so frequent as the London bound trains. When the line was first electrified in the 1970s there was even an hourly all night service from London Kings cross after midnight. Wow that was good for nights out !
