Houndiscombe Villas

This view across the small triangle of public gardens shows the Victorian terrace of houses which still has the upmarket name of the terrace shown clearly on the wall of the building. In the photo, the sign 'Houndiscombe Villas' is hidden just to the right of the tree in the centre of the picture. Image Around the end of the 19th Century and beginning of the 20th, the end property on the extreme left of this terrace was associated with the local owner of Regent Brewery in Stonehouse, later part of Plymouth Breweries Ltd. The owner of Regent Brewery, Samuel Vosper, went onto become the Managing Director of Plymouth Breweries with the Head Office at the old Regent Brewery in Durnford Street. Image Samuel Vosper’s wife Eleanor and widowed daughter Florence Eleanor (plus possibly other family members like Eleanor’s children) moved into No. 6 Houndiscombe Villas, Mutley. Renumbered this is now the end-terrace house known as No. 12, Houndiscombe Road.
