Lion Salt Works

Open pan salt works using pumped brine. Worked into the 1980s but is now very ramshackle although preserved in part. I had always thought this was the last open pan works but there is a sea salt plant down at Maldon. They will not allow visitors due to H & S regulations (either a necessary safeguard or an easy cop out depending on point of view). Mind you, if you fall into an open salt pan you are not likely to live to tell the tale (some workers did).
