Penfold pillar box outside Shrewsbury Abbey

This J W Penfold designed pillarbox dates to the period after 1866 and has a small flap in the opening to help protect the mail from the weather. The original maker's name, cast into the base, is Cochrane Grove & Co, Dudley, although 'Dudley' is half buried in the cement of the paving. The reference number of the pillarbox is SY2 4. The west door of the abbey can be seen to the left of the box. See also Image
