Despite the row of Poplar Trees (which grew behind the main stand) this is Oakfield which was the home of Rugby Town F.C. In 1972 they were forced out of business by their landlords who wanted to sell the land for housing. Rugby Town merged with the town's other leading football club Valley Sports recently amid much controversy and play their games at Butlin Road. Oakfield is STILL a Football Pitch and Recreation Ground.
