Comment originally read "Established in 1847, Gales are now the only major, surviving independent family brewing company in Hampshire." UPDATE Nov-2005 : Gales has now been bought out by Fullers, who have stopped all brewing on the site. It's possible that the site may still be used for distribution, although the famous Hampshire brews are now made in Chiswick :-(
