The foundation stones for the Wesley Memorial Church were laid in July 1877, and the building was opened for worship in October 1878. The architect was Charles Bell and the builder Joshua Symm. The building on the whole followed the conventional Gothic style; the capitals of the pillars were carved by Henry Frith of Gloucester, and show twelve different kinds of English plants. http://www.wesleymem.org.uk/wmhistory.shtml
