One of six gates in the medieval town walls, the New Gate, at the junction of Newgate Street and Gallowgate, was also one of the strongest http://www.flickr.com/photos/newcastlelibraries/4091277154/ It was demolished after 1823 and now only a small portion of the town walls can still be seen in this area, close to St Andrew's Church Image The new development ahead is the Gate, a leisure and entertainment centre.
