Located on the corner of Durham Road and Elysia Street are the buildings formerly occupied by Glan Usk Primary School. For many decades the school was named Durham Road school. Now boarded up (January 2010), the last lessons were held here in December 2009. The new Glan Usk school opened in the Glebelands in January 2010. It is a long awaited replacement for these Victorian buildings, which were declared unfit for purpose more than a decade ago. It was reported in January 2010 that housing association Linc-Cymru had bought the premises and that they were likely to announce their plans for the site in the spring.
