Prior to the opening of the M74 and M8, this was a very busy road junction. The A74 runs to the right to Glasgow and continues under the railway bridge towards Uddingston. The B7058 branches off to the left to Baillieston while the road behind the camera position also leads to Glasgow. The footbridge at Mount Vernon railway station can be seen left of centre of the photograph.
