The construction of St George's church > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1667713 started in the 12th century, with south porch and aisle > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1667780 added in the 14th century. Despite renovation work that was carried out in the 19th century, the church has retained much of its medieval atmosphere > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1667749. The C15 benches > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1667770 have carved and pierced decorations in a variety of patterns, and poppyhead bench ends as well as carved figures on the arm rests, the latter much defaced. The octagonal font > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1667795 dates from the 14th century and some of the medieval glass > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1667787 has remained in the east window of the south aisle. The rood screen > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1667755 is C15 and retains some of its original colouring. The panels depict the 12 apostles holding their recognised portion of the Creed, with the 4 Latin Doctors painted on the doors. Three return stalls > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1667775 rest against the screen on the chancel side. The pulpit > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1667776 is Jacobean. The chamber organ > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1667790 is believed to have been made by JC Bishop of London in about 1830.
