The Civic Centre can be seen on the left. The foreground roof is above Marks & Spencer store in Haymarket. The narrow lane below, Prudhoe Chare, now provides an entrance to the Eldon Square shopping centre from the pedestrianised Northumberland Street. One of the impressive Victorian buildings on Northumberland Street, with cream-coloured columns, is visible on the right Image, a view often spoilt from street level by the modern shop fronts and the common press of people.
