This picture was taken in November 1936 by my Great Uncle, the Reverend E. V. Tanner, who was a Master at Weymouth College. It shows Edward VIII arriving for a visit to the town, and is taken opposite the Devonshire Buildings- for a more up to date picture of the building see Image by Gillian Moy. Edward was never crowned King because of his association with, and later marriage to, Mrs Simpson who was both a divorcee and a commoner. Whilst he was Prince of Wales he had a very close association with the town of Weymouth and was very popular with the residents.
