The sign on the building says Rotherhithe Street, which is the street numbering for premises both in the street, which is largely further east, and the alley on the right that connects through to it. Elephant Stairs (to the Thames) were down the alley with rubbish to the left of the building. The streets here now are renamed as a looping extension of Elephant Lane from near right to near left. The site is now occupied by modern flats - Princes Tower.
