clas ohlson has taken over the old Woolworths store (see Image) but now Borders next door has gone. This was due to the slightly old fashioned business model of opening late, letting people in to browse stock, read a bit of a book in a comfy chair, put it back and order it cheaper online if they liked it. Town centres are poorer without them, especially if you're stuck in one late with time to kill, but we are two pounds better off for buying online, aren't we clever. They also had problems with being allowed credit for the large stock that they carried.
