From the A38 at Splatford Split (I kid you not) the A380 climbs about 140 metres in a horizontal distance of 1600 metres (about a mile). The signs before the descent say: 5%. Low Gear Now. Escape Lane Ahead. Telegraph Hill. It's a racetrack with fleeting panoramic glimpses across Devon.
