A disc of snow starts to slip from a no entry sign, affixed to an ornate lamppost, which tells motorists that, henceforth, Old Christchurch Road is pedestrianised. In fact, locked gates across the carriageway tell it even better. Access is available for deliveries to the shops, between 10pm and 5am.
