This dewpond has become so overgrown that cattle, sheep and Dartmoor ponies, used for scrub control, cannot get to it. The nearest water trough is some 800 yards away and this lack of water deters the animals from coming into the quarry during late spring and summer when they need to drink more water. National trust volunteers cleared the pond to enable the animals access to it and by doing so they will visit this area and help to control the growth of bramble and tree seedlings.
