Obviously associated with the nearby Trent and Mersey Canal basin. One of many public houses in the immediate area: 'The Crescent'; 'Royal Oak'; 'New Inn' and the 'Red Lion'. To the south of the building was a Co-op butchery complete with abattoir now demolished along with other housing.
