The inscription on the plaque reads, "This fountain was erected to celebrate the completion of a new water supply scheme for Caernarfon. It was officially opened by their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales 25 April, 1868. The heir to the throne performing the ceremony of turning on the taps."
