The bungalows along East View, covered with a blanket of snow today, face East over the playing fields of Belle Vue Park. Winter will soon be here in the Northern Hemisphere! During the winter solstice the sun sits closer to the horizon than at any other time during the year, giving us the least amount of daylight. The day after the winter solstice marks the beginning of lengthening days leading up to the summer solstice. The word "Solstice" derives from the Latin and means "Sun stands still."
