Pontefract Terrace was one of the first group of houses built for the then "New" coal mining industry workers. Although this photo was taken in 2006, Pontefract Terrace was included in the 1901 British Census and comprises two rows of terraces backing on to each other, not as is typical, facing each other. They are adjacent to the open air market.
