British Midland Airways plane, having just been refueled, begins to receive passengers on foot ! In the earlier days of 'package holidays', passengers would regularly walk across tarmac to planes. This photo was taken from a small viewing location (across a wall, no security) on right of main buildings (accessed from Coventry Road, Terminal Road). The main viewing location was further west. The hangar on the right housed private aeroplanes / club planes (approx 30 to 40)
