Photo taken in September 2009. The building has deteriorated greatly in the two years since this photo http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/584048. Linc-Cymru is preparing a detailed planning application which will be submitted to Newport City Council in January 2010. If successful, a £50 million rejuvenation project will take place on the Lysaght site. The plan includes refurbishment of Lysaght Institute, and its development as a focal point for the community as a whole. This echoes the Institute's illustrious past when it played a key role in the economic and social life of the area. Included in the plans is the development of 180 affordable homes for rent or sale, to be funded and developed by Linc-Cymru. The final part of the proposed regeneration would see Morrisons, one of the UK's largest supermarket chains, opening a 62,000 sq ft food store.
