Pevsner records the porch as having been rebuilt in 1729, but clearly older material was retained, as two of these inscriptions are dated 1689 (WM) and 1690 (RM) respectively. The time it would have taken to carve these initials suggests that they might have had some official approval; maybe they were churchwardens?
