The new Hotel du Vin incorporates a remnant of the Victorian Charity Poorhouse. It was in an earlier building on this spot that the 18thC poet Robert Fergusson was confined and died at an early age. The Poorhouse moved to new buildings at Craiglockhart which opened in 1870. Image
