Strikingly positioned right on the seafront, Swansea Observatory was built by the council with match-funding from a European Regional Development Grant. It was completed in 1993 and loaned to the Swansea Astronomical Society who opened it for educational visits and talks. Sadly, in late 2009 however the observatory closed when new financial costs imposed upon the Society proved...well, astronomical.
