Well, this is not Slough, but Glover Drive, London N14. When future (and wiser) generations come to write, as they surely will, of the disastrous effect of the private motor car on our once-pleasant land, they will not be short of examples. I was brought up among the textile mills of Lancashire and Yorkshire, but it was never this bad.
