From the railway bridge looking west along the route of the old Malvern-Ashchurch Railway to the Malvern Hills in the background. The nature reserve stretches half a mile along the old track bed, starting at this bridge. The 14-mile branch line running between Ashchurch, Tewkesbury, Upton and Great Malvern opened in 1861. This section between Upton and Malvern closed in 1952 due to the decline in local rail traffic and the whole branch closed in 1963, just before the Beeching Report would, no doubt, have axed it anyway. The reserve is managed by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and the site is a SSSI supporting thirty species of butterfly. http://www.worcswildlifetrust.co.uk/index.php?section=places:reserves&reserveid=377 Image Image
