Victorian recreation area, Promenade, Hartlepool Headland

This area was constructed as a recreational area during Victorian times and featured a bandstand. It was a popular venue for a range of events including street theatre, pierrot (a stock comic character in old French pantomime, having a whitened face and wearing loose white pantaloons and a jacket with large buttons), boxing matches and later motorbike racing and time trials.
