Why does No.35 Loaning Road differ from its 1930s neighbours on either side? The answer lies in events on the night of July 6th, 1942, when a Luftwaffe bomber dropped four 500lb bombs over this part of Edinburgh. One of the bombs obliterated No.35, resulting in the later infill.
