Civic Hall in Ellison Street Jarrow Built as the Mechanics Institute in 1864 by subscription by the Palmers Shipyard workers for recreation for the workers As rumour has it even though it's a listed building, the council are going to demolish it in 2010 and build offices on the site Can this be legal when it was paid for by subscription by the Palmers Workforce as a gift to the working class of the town?
