The eastern portion of the General (western) Cemetery is no longer in use and the trees and shrubs are slowly shrouding the gravestones. From the air, the cemetery looks like thick woodland. Lime trees, ash, hawthorn, cherries, hollies and many other species of trees attract a range of fauna to the cemetery. The council has installed many birdboxes and is managing the area for wildlife and the enjoyment of the general public.
