A Euston to Glasgow service diverted via the S/C line due to engineering work north of Preston passes Settle Junction signalbox where the line to Carnforth and Lancaster diverges from the Settle to Carlisle line. During times of planned engineering work the S/C has been regularly used as a diversionary route to allow the engineers occupation of the West Coast route.
