Looking down Bishopsgate - one of the City's principal thoroughfares - with Liverpool Street station on the right. Until relatively recently this would have been regarded as the fringe of the business district, but office accommodation has gradually spread northwards towards Shoreditch and into the Borough of Hackney. Ahead is Heron Tower, a 46-storey, 230 metre-tall office block under construction at 110 Bishopsgate. The block obtained planning permission with vigorous support from both the City authorities and the Mayor of London despite objections from English Heritage that it compromises sight lines to St Paul's.
