Looking west towards the racecourse and the river Severn. The 1930s buildings are on the site of the county gaol. The front of the gaol, built in 1813, was in the style of a medieval castle - hence the change of name for the street from "Salt Lane". Worcester's castle was south of the cathedral - a kilometre or so away. The nearby building, on the junction with Love's Grove, bears the date 1939 and is used by the NHS. The building with the iconic clock tower is now a furnishing shop, but used to be a garage/ car salesroom. Image
