Between Kippford and Rockcliffe, along the north eastern shore of the Firth, there are many pleasant cottages and villas with an unrivalled view towards the Solway. They enjoy mild conditions from the effects of the Gulf Stream and some gardens display palms and other "tender" plants. The area is popular for boating and yachting in the summer months and there are some excellent coastal walks.
