Brigstock Road, at the junction with Brook Road (left) and Boswell Road. A difficult junction for drivers coming out of either side road. The driver of the car, near the centre of picture, has used the pedestrian at the crossing as a means of getting onto the main road. Note the twin street lights on the left of picture. Croydon Council embarked on a programme to upgrade lighting in parts of Croydon. However, after the control of Croydon Council changed between parties, and a large financial deficit was "discovered", this programme stopped overnight. The plan had been to install the new lights, connect them up, then remove the old lights. I'll have to check after dark, but I don't think that the second stage was reached with the lights on Brigstock Road.
