A pub of this name on the corner of Cambridge Heath Road and Bishops Road dates back to the mid-C19; it was rebuilt in 1902. Renamed and rebranded as the Metropolis since the 70s, it is now a huge private strip club that prides itself on being a pioneer in 'gentlemen's entertainment'. Apparently it has the dubious honour of being the first UK venue for table dancing.
