Here Barton Road Bridge crosses the Manchester Ship Canal. The bridge is pivoted in the centre and can swing open to allow large vessels to pass through. Behind the road bridge lies Barton Aqueduct, which can also swing open. This carries the Bridgewater Canal over the Ship Canal.
