It reads, "The site of this building was formerly a carrier's warehouse and later a museum of local antiquities and natural history - 1780 - 1870 was founded by Peter Crosthwaithe 1735 - 1808 a native of this town a naval commander in the East India Service and a man of considerable ingenuity. His grandson John Fisher Crosthwaithe J.P. E.S.A. 1819 - 1897 held numerous appointments for the welfare of his native town" - it is pictured here Image]
