The post box carries the VR insignia, but it was not at this location according to the 1901 Kelly's street directory. It is now beside the post office at 149 Caerleon Road. In 1901 this property was a private residence : the post office was located just around the corner, somewhere near the junction of Durham Road and Constance Street. But although Kelly's indicates the location of 'pillar letter boxes' , nothing was shown outside the 1901 post office premises. A possible location for the box at that time is here http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1520509
