The Surrey County Ploughing Match & Country Fare, at Loseley Park, Compton, near Guildford, took place in near perfect autumn conditions. Not as hot as the previous year; still conditions, and hardly a cloud in the sky. Some of the Ploughing Match rules: (7b) Ploughing to commence at 10.30am and finish at 1.30pm (Split openings at 10.00am). (7d) Width of furrow not to exceed 9 inches. (7f) Competitors not finishing their plots in the allowed time shall not be eligible for ploughing prizes. See the attached link for videos from the 2008 event, held in a field approximately three quarters of a mile to the north-west. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=FECA3D1B81B31D94&page=1 Ian Williams, Champion in 2004 2006 and 2008, with his team of horses. I'm sitting about 12 feet away from the "action", the closest that is permitted at either end of the ploughing area. I used a 35/105mm zoom lens; almost perfect for the conditions.
