Calliteara pudibunda - looking like a fluffy slipper, the larva is around 3cm in length and fell out of an ornamental cherry tree onto the concrete below. They feed on a range of deciduous shrubs and are particularly fond of the hop plant. The adult is much less colourful. See http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=4446
