This church was built in 1840 to replace a much older one positioned 500 yards to the South. The nearby Manor House has an impressive West facing facade topped by a huge stone eagle. See Mike Searle's picture Image It was the home of the Sydenham family in the 16th and 17th century, the most notable of which was Thomas Sydenham, who distinguished himself in the Civil War. However, the last of the Sydenhams died in Dorchester Prison in 1709.
