This road bridge appears to have a modern deck on old piers. The river flows through an artificial channel here Image to a tidal sluice Image The channel was dug when the railway was built in c.1855, to drain the marshes and claim the land behind the railway embankment. Previously, the Winster joined the Kent close to Holme Island (SD4278).
