St. Mary's Parish Church is constructed of red sandstone and dates mainly from 1610 with a 16th century vestry and an ancient base to the chancel. The church occupies a hill site with a circular churchyard indicating that a church occupied the site in Celtic times, the name Prescot is Anglo-Saxon and means priest's dwelling.
