At this point in Wendover Woods the forest road has been widened with part of the hill being excavated and the excavated material used to build a wide platform. This was almost certainly done by the Rothschilds, possibly to provide a picnic site with a view. It is not far from the hilltop chalet. (There is another far bigger purpose-built picnic area on a lower forest track.) This is a wonderful spot to watch any flying displays at RAF Halton – which sometimes including the Red Arrows.
