The lamp with its three visible white globes can be seen on the roundabout. It is said to commemorate General Charles Gordon 'Gordon of Khartoum'. There is a wiki article about him which, surprisingly, doesn't mention the lamp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_George_Gordon That made me wonder whether the lamp doesn't in fact commemorate another General Gordon, one of two famous generals who may have invented London gin, the other one being a General Booth. Since the only reference I have for that contention is a mention in the film 'The Titfield Thunderbolt', it's probably best to discount that possibility.
